Five Ten Quantum VCS Gear News

The all new Quantum VCS will be available in your favourite climbing shops in the next few days. Check out the links below to find them online!

For the redevelopment of the classic Quantum, we worked with the Huber brothers, Alex and Thomas, to develop an all-around performance shoe for any climbing setting. We started with a Stealth® C4™ outsole, the Hubers tackle a diverse range of climbs with many different angles and rock textures and C4™ is our most versatile compound.

The shoe has a stiff midsole and lined Clarino synthetic upper, so it stays comfortable for extended periods of wear. The tongue is a perforated ariaprene, which conforms to the foot and provides unmatched breathability. The Quantum is built on a new last; it is slightly downturned and a bit wider than our traditional downturned lasts allowing your foot to sit in a more natural position. The Velcro closure offers comfort and ease of entry.

Features:

  • Stealth® C4™ rubber outsole (4.2mm)
  • Lined synthetic Clarino upper – No stretch
  • Velcro closure system
  • Wider last
  • Ariaprene tongue
  • Stiffness – Stiff
  • Vegan
  • Weight per shoe- (men's size 9) 9.1oz/259g
  • Sizing – Men's UK: 4-12
  • Good for: Sport climbing, bouldering, hard trad, indoor climbing.

Is anyone actually selling these? Potentially buying a pair of the laced version but want to try these on first... Thanks.

Check back on the post tomorrow. If any of the shops that advertise with UKC have them in stock there will be links at the bottom.

Should I know what Skwama is?

A reference to the La Sportiva Skwama perhaps?

12 Apr, 2018

Yes. It's been a flagship Sportiva shoe for going on three years.

That said this new Quantum is stiff where the Skwama is soft, has two velcro closures, and a totally different heel, harder rubber (C4 is harder than XS Grip II IME), is synthetic where the Skwama uses calf leather, has a full edge where the Skwama uses a blend of front edge on the toe and no-edge on the sides, has a less aggressive downturn and a wide fit last as opposed to La Sportiva which are notoriously narrow, even in their wider models.
