© Edelrid

EDELRID are a brand known for their innovation. From the OHM to the new GIGA JUL the catalogue is full of groundbreaking new products. There is one product area however where EDELRID really excel. Since creating the worlds first Kernmantle rope in 1953, we have undoubtedly become one of the world's most respected rope manufacturers.

All our rope is manufactured in our own facility in Germany, in the small town of Isny im Allgäu in the Allgäu region of Bavaria. Watch this great video from Weigh My Rack to see our rope production in action!

Now that you've seen how our rope is made and our philosophy behind rope manufacture. We thought we'd showcase some of our most innovative ropes from our current range.

SWIFT ECO DRY 8,9 MM (RRP: £180 60m)

The Swift Eco Dry is a rope with environmental sustainability at the core of it's design. Don't think for a second however that this means it lacks in the important areas. Like the normal Swift Pro Dry the Eco Dry is triple rated, meaning it can be used as a single, twin and half rope all in one.

So, why the name? Eco Dry refers to our new dry treatment process which allows this rope to be completely PFC (Polyfluorinated & perfluorinated chemicals) free whilst still meeting the UIAA standard for less than 2% water absorption. It's also made from 'up-cycled' yarns left over from production of our other rope, which is what gives the Swift Eco Dry its funky pattern.

Key features:

  • Thermo Shield treatment for perfect handling
  • Eco Dry for outstanding dirt and water resistance
  • Certified as a single, twin and half rope all in one
  • 3D lap coiling to enable instant use without tangles
  • Water absorption less than 2% as per UIAA Water Repellent Test
  • Available in 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 & 80m lengths

CANARY PRO DRY 8,6 MM (RRP: £200 60m)

One of the thinnest and lightest single ropes in the world! Like the Swift Eco Dry the Canary Pro Dry is triple rated, meaning it too can be used as a single, twin & half rope. A pretty impressive feat of manufacture when you think that it only weighs 51 g/m and has a diameter of 8.6mm.

Where the Canary really shines however is its durability, thanks to the higher sheath proportion the Canary is the most robust lightweight rope on the market. This coupled with the triple rating makes it perfect for use by mountain guides and mountaineers.

Key features:

  • Pro Dry for outstanding dirt and water resistance
  • Certified as a single, twin and half rope all in one
  • 3D lap coiling to enable instant use without tangles
  • Water absorption less than 2% as per UIAA Water Repellent Test
  • Available in 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 & 80m lengths

That was fascinating.

I've always liked edelrid ropes and now I wonder how can they be so cheap!

I've bought cheaper ropes and, frankly, they were not very good. They got furry, or kinked badly. I've no idea about their strength - it was all about handling as far as I was concerned.

The bobbins on that sheath machine brought back memories of maypole dancing as a nipper
