Never Leave the Dog Behind: Our love of dogs and mountains Gear News

© Vertebrate Publishing

Helen Mort, the multi-award-winning poet and author of Division Street and Black Car Burning, is offering you a unique opportunity to have a photo of you and your dog printed in her new book, Never Leave the Dog Behind.

Never leave the dog behind
Inspired by the story of Missy, a German Shepherd who was abandoned by two hikers in the Canadian Rockies, Never Leave the Dog Behind celebrates the relationship between dogs, mountains and the people who love them. The book comprises interviews with dog owners and experiences with a variety of dogs as well as Helen's own observations as a runner and pet owner herself.

If you love dogs as much as we do and you'd like to be part of a book that celebrates the joy of heading to the hills with your four-legged friend, check out our Kickstarter page below.

We're specifically after photos that capture you and your dog (pet dogs or working dogs) enjoying time together in our hills and mountains.

With each pledge you'll receive a signed copy of the book, your name printed in the acknowledgements and a Never Leave the Dog Behind tote bag.

Plus, if you pledge £150 (which will be donated to Mountain Rescue England and Wales) we're offering a training exercise with a search and rescue dog. You'll get the opportunity to be a dogsbody and observe how mountain rescue dogs work and indicate the location of those in need to their handlers.
