Berghaus body-mapped Hydro® insulation ? providing warmth and comfort for extended winter adventures

New from Berghaus for winter 2014 are the men’s and women’s Ulvetanna Hybrid Down jackets.  Using a combination of body mapped 90/10 850 fill goose Hydrodown® and Hydroloft® Elite Pro with PERTEX® Quantum and Microlight face fabrics, the Ulvetanna Hybrids deliver very high performance insulation for serious mountain adventures.   Part of the latest Extrem range, these jackets are the latest innovations to emerge from Berghaus’ MtnHaus® design and development team.

Together, Berghaus Hydrodown® and Hydroloft® are designed to provide the ultimate comfort driven insulation system for serious outdoor activists.  The combination of Hydrodown® around the core and Hydroloft® in the high heat/sweat zones improves performance and comfort during long days outdoors.  One key difference between the Ulvetannas and other hybrid jackets is the non-migratory Hydroloft®, which does not have to be sandwiched between down proof fabrics, unlike some other synthetics.  This allows Berghaus to use face and lining fabrics with higher air permeability, markedly improving comfort during extended use.

Hydroloft® excels as it still has a very high warmth to weight ratio, superior to market leading synthetics.  That, combined with Hydrodown®, which is still the greater insulator (but relies on down proof, less breathable fabrics), has allowed Berghaus to develop the best solution for active alpinists and ski mountaineers in cold conditions where a full down jacket would be overwhelmed.

Each Ulvetanna Hybrid has plenty of useful features, including: a fixed, helmet compatible hood with stiffened peak; two external zipped handwarmer pockets; an internal zipped pocket; stretch binding at the cuffs; drawcord hem adjustment; and a stuff sac.  The men’s jacket weighs 409g (large) and the women’s weighs 342g (size 12), and both retail at £250.

Also new to Extrem are the men’s and women’s Ramche Hypers, featherweight Hydrodown® jackets, that employ three zone body mapping and weigh in at just 179g (size large) and 169g (size 12) respectively.  Insulation is provided by 50g of 90/10 fill goose Hydrodown® and a PERTEX® QUANTUM® GL face fabric provides high levels of water and wind resistance.  The Ramche Hypers retail at £230.

The new Berghaus Extrem range is available now from www.berghaus.com and selected specialist retailers.
