New mountaineering and sailing series from Vertebrate Publishing

Mountaineering publisher Vertebrate has joined forces with sailing specialist Lodestar Books to create a new ‘Tilman’ book series.

Harold William ‘Bill’ Tilman was among the greatest adventurers of his time, a pioneering mountaineer and sailor who held exploration above all else. He spent most of his life living away from home, surviving on minimal provisions, calm endurance, natural navigational talent and a passion to explore. For Tilman, the goal was always to explore and to see new places; to discover rather than conquer.

Tilman wrote seven books about his mountaineering adventures and eight about his sailing explorations. In a one-off collaboration with Lodestar, Vertebrate is releasing new editions of these books – together with the definitive Anderson biography – under a new imprint simply titled Tilman

The first two books in the new Tilman series are now available. Snow on the Equator and Mischief in Patagonia chronicle Tilman’s early mountaineering adventures, from his time in Africa, where he began his famous mountaineering partnership with Eric Shipton, to the beginning of his sailing career, when his crew travelled the length of the Atlantic to make the first lateral traverse of the Patagonian ice cap.

Two new books – each of which has been designed as part of a collectable set of sixteen titles – will be released every twelve weeks. Click HERE to discover more about Tilman and the project.
