The Beal TRACT UP is a compact micro rope clamp.

It has a fixed sheave with a swing side plate that is easily opened to thread the rope. To attach a karabiner simply connect through the centre of the sheave. Clear markings allow for correct orientation during use.

The sprung TRACT UP clamp features a hole on the cam allowing accessory cord to be attached, making for easy releasing when unloaded.

At 80g it is both light and compact allowing a multitude of uses:

  • Ascending
  • Aid climbing
  • Hauling

People do use devices similar to this, like the CT rollnlock. 4kN breaking strain seems a little too close for comfort to me though...

very true however I'm not sure a static fall would ever generate that kind of impact force.

You'd have to fall from a long way onto it to do any damage.

Some people use LSK semi static rope for shunting which isn't covered by that link.

You're right that it would probably be ok, it's just that I'm coming from an industrial climbing and mr background where safety factors are much higher.
