The Ropemaker Edelrid

It is probably fair to say that EDELRID is, quite possibly, the most innovative manufacturer in the world of climbing today. Despite 'innovation' arguably becoming an overused word products such as the, soon to be released, OHMEGA have effectively created their own category.

One area that EDELRID have remained at the forefront of for many years, is rope. Whether it be from an environmental responsibility point of view or pushing the limits of technical design, there are constant new innovations to be found.

#ClimbGreen

With our #ClimbGreen collection, we want to prove that sustainability can be consistently implemented in the field of PPE without compromising on safety or performance. All #ClimbGreen products follow the principle of the 3R´s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce: A new rope for 2025, the BIRDLIME 1R 9.8mm is the first synthetic climbing rope to be made from renewable raw materials. More than 40% of the rope is made from castor-oil-based material.

Reuse: An established favourite in the range, the PARROT 2R 9.6mm uses high-quality leftover yarns from our in-house production processes. The properties and strength values are identical to those of a comparable rope made from brand new yarns.

Recycle: The NEO 100 3R 9.6mm is the result of several years of development work, thanks to which we have now succeeded in manufacturing a fully recycled climbing rope that meets our high requirements. We have also significantly reduced the ecological footprint by using high-quality leftover yarn and rope from our in-house production facilities for the recycling process.

Cut Protect

Our Cut Protect range of ropes use aramid fibres woven into the rope sheath to dramatically increase the cut resistance. This technology comes into it's own when climbing on routes where the rope may run over a sharp arete or similar.

The SWIFT PROTECT PRO DRY 8.9mm was the first rope to use this technology. Since then we have developed a full range of cut protect ropes for every type and style of climbing.

Eco Dry

In 2018, EDELRID launched the world's first rope with a PFC and PFAS free dry-treatment that met the UIAA water-repellent standard. In 2025, the Eco Dry collection was expanded to include all but four of our dry-treated ropes. For next year all our dry-treated ropes will use our Eco Dry treatment, a goal we have had for many years.

Ropes with Eco Dry absorb less than 1-2% of their own weight in water and thus offer comparable values in terms of durability, abrasion resistance, and water resistance as our proven Pro Dry treatment.

This short video from WeighMyRack shows just how much work goes into creating an EDELRID rope from start to finish.
