Alpine Training Challenge or a bit of fun! How many routes can you lead these safely in daylight hours?
Such a challenge helps climbers prepare for mid-grade, multipitch Alpine mountain climbs and such like! These classic VS routes (of varying styles), can test a range of skills such as stamina, strength, technique, focus, strategy and basic route planning.
Lead Safely?
For this challenge, aim to reasonably protect every route. This is not a test of how brave you are. Aim for quick, slick, safe gear placement to compliment your ability!
Multi-Pitch Note:
You are not just protecting against a slip, but rockfall, exhaustion, exposure (heat-cold-rain) and off route adventures. So whilst speed is important, well placed gear could be a life safer!
Why routes @ Stanage Popular?
This minimises walking and helps simulate an Alpine multi-pitch as the climbing will be maximised by minimal walking.
Sustained Interest:
Most routes have 2 or 3 stars and challenge various skills, stamina, focus and strength, when attempted in one day!
Record Progress:
How Many Routes did you climb? How long did it take?
Recording conditions, start/end times and strategies used, should help to improve future attempts!
Completing all routes is 496 meters climbed and 58 stars.
Some Fun!
10 or Less - Miserable failure! Try tennis, or train harder. No beer today!
10 - 15 - You deserve a beer! Then train harder.
15 - 20 - Excellent. You are a confident VS climber.
20 - 25 - Slick gear placement. Strong as an Ox. Probably confident on HVS and E1's.
25 - 30 - Confident Extreme grade climber.
30 - 34 - You are ready for your next mission!
Have Fun - Be Safe!
