This list comprises of the best the UK has to offer for people climbing at an exceptional level.
Routes have been included for a number of reasons; The aesthetically pleasing nature of the line, it's history, first ascent, the boldness or adventurous nature of the climbing, its sheer difficulty, it might have been a breakthrough in standards, maybe the first of its grade.
For this list I have included a mixture of both trad and sport routes (with a few boulder problems and deep water solos thrown in) because I appreciate to climb routes of this difficulty you have to have some sport background. The focus is, however, mostly on trad, because I believe this is where the heart of British climbing lies.
Routes range in difficulty from E2 to E11 for trad and 7a to 9a+ for sport, I have included classic routes in the 'lower grades' because I feel that climbers should not miss out on these just because they climb harder, also they can be used as a good 'warm up'.
If you are subscribed to/ have completed my other ticklist 'The best the UK has to offer for mortals' you will have already ticked several routes on here, as there is an overlap in grade ranges, so you will have a good head start.
If you complete this list, then well done, you are probably the best climber in Britain. There is however some challenges which have yet to be done, 'last great problems' of our generation. There are the blank walls at millstone and lawrencefield and also wizard ridge at burbage south to name a few and also many bolted 'projects' on the limestone and slate.
